RIBBON CUTTING: Yoctangee Park improvements

Friday, November 6, 2026 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EST)

Description

CHILLICOTHE, OH – The City of Chillicothe will celebrate the completion of the Yoctangee Park improvements with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Yoctangee Park Amphitheater. The City invites residents, families, and visitors to attend this free celebration and help mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Yoctangee Park.

The project was funded through the Appalachian Community Grant Program (ACGP), administered by the Ohio Department of Development and the Governor's Office of Appalachia. The award was announced in May of 2024, and City staff, partners at Ross County, and project teams have worked continuously since that time to bring the improvements to fruition ahead of the program's deadline at the end of 2026.

The comprehensive project includes construction of a new outdoor amphitheater and multipurpose pavilion, which will be anchored on Saturdays by the Chillicothe farmers market, a complete renovation of the historic Armory, a new Diamond One baseball field, a new skatepark, new pickleball courts, complete renovation of the tennis courts, renovations to the 40 & 8 fish stand, and the addition of new sidewalks and greenspaces. Infrastructure improvements include installation of a roundabout at Mill Street and Yoctangee Parkway, updates to the surrounding road network, a complete rebuild of Mulberry Street, complete rebuild of the intersection of Riverside and Mulberry Streets, and important utility upgrades throughout the park.

“These improvements represent an incredible investment in our community and the future of Chillicothe,” said Mayor Luke Feeney. “Yoctangee Park has always been a place where our community comes together, and this project creates even more opportunities for families to gather, enjoy recreational activities, and take part in events throughout the year. We are incredibly proud of what has been accomplished and excited to welcome everyone to experience all that these new spaces have to offer.”

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees are invited to tour the new facilities and experience the improvements firsthand. Activities will take place throughout the park Friday afternoon and continue Saturday, November 7, as the Chillicothe Farmers Market celebrates its first day in the new pavilion space.
