ADVOCACY ALERT: Five priority areas shaping Chillicothe & Ross County in 2026
Fresh off the U.S. Chamber's State of American Business address, local chamber sets priorities for 2026
Thank you for your leadership and partnership in building a thriving local economy. A quick memory I often share: the best outcomes come when we work together to turn challenges into opportunities. This year, we’re focused on five priorities that can unlock growth for every member — from small, family-owned shops to growing manufacturers.
Priority 1: Growth-first policy agenda (3%+ growth, pro-growth tax policy, streamlined permitting)
- Why it matters: A stable, predictable framework helps you invest, expand, hire, and raise wages here.
- What the Chamber will do: Advocate for regional permitting reform, stable tax policy, and clearer regulations; align local policy with national growth priorities.
- How members can help: Engage in our policy briefings, attend listening sessions and advocacy events, and share local permitting pain points so we can push practical fixes.
Priority 2: AI and digital transformation (balanced regulation, adoption in operations)
- Why it matters: AI can boost productivity, customer experience, and new business models for small and mid-sized firms.
- What the Chamber will do: Provide practical, responsible guidance; support pilots; share local use cases and vetted vendors.
- How members can help: Attend AI readiness workshops; contribute use-case ideas; participate in a member AI advisory group.
Priority 3: Infrastructure and housing/permitting (roads, bridges, broadband, housing supply, faster approvals)
- Why it matters: A robust infrastructure and more housing help attract and retain the workforce.
- What the Chamber will do: Advocate for streamlined permitting and targeted infrastructure investments; partner on workforce housing solutions.
- How members can help: Join convenings (housing/infrastructure), provide site-ready data, and identify local bottlenecks.
Priority 4: Legal/regulatory risk and tort reform (clear rules, fewer frivolous lawsuits)
- Why it matters: Reducing unnecessary litigation lowers costs and uncertainty for small businesses.
- What the Chamber will do: Champion balanced reforms; deliver practical risk-management resources.
- How members can help: Share real-world compliance pain points; participate in risk-management clinics.
Priority 5: Workforce development and education for the future of work
- Why it matters: A skilled local labor pool is the difference between filling roles and growing your business.
- What the Chamber will do: Lead regional talent pipelines; connect employers with schools and training providers; showcase local success stories; and continue and enhance support for STEM programs in schools.
- How members can help: Engage with local schools and training programs; offer internships or work-based learning opportunities; nominate candidates for leadership & policy programs.
We’re dedicated to making Chillicothe and Ross County the best place for business and people to grow and thrive. Your voice matters—together, we turn national opportunities into local momentum.
