Chillicothe among four SE Ohio sites named as 'top micropolitan' communities

Site Selection magazine, the leading publication in corporate real estate and facility planning, recently announced its 2022 Governor’s Cup results. The Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) region, comprised of the 25 Ohio Appalachian designated counties, gave a strong performance with four communities landing on the top micropolitan list for the past year.

The cities of Chillicothe, Jackson and Zanesville tied at No. 28 on the list. The city of Portsmouth also was singled out, tying for No. 44 on the list. This designation acknowledges those communities with the highest number of qualified economic development projects during 2022.

A micropolitan is a core-based statistical area with a core city of between 10,000 and 50,000 residents.

“The fact that four of the communities in the OhioSE region have made this prestigious list is a direct testament to the hard work that our local economic development professionals and their partners are doing to keep their communities competitive and their economies growing through new investment and jobs creating projects”, noted Mike Jacoby, president of Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE). “This designation is a true example of our region’s strong competitive business climate.”
