Downtown Chillicothe will be transformed into a world of imagination and adventure on Saturday, June 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., as a Lord of the Rings–inspired event invites residents and visitors alike to experience a day filled with creativity, exploration, and community spirit. 

This immersive, family-friendly event will feature participating downtown businesses offering themed specials, activities, and unique experiences throughout the day. Designed as a walkable, come-and-go event, attendees will have the opportunity to explore local shops, enjoy dining, and discover everything downtown Chillicothe has to offer—through a fresh and engaging lens inspired by the beloved works of JRR Tolkien.

Building on the success of a previous event held in November 2024, organizers are expecting even greater participation this year. That earlier event drew more than 200 attendees to downtown, demonstrating strong community interest in themed, experience-driven events.

Angel Altman, Owner of Tea of Life Apothecary & SA Integrated Health, reflected on the impact of the event:

“When we hosted this event in November 2024, we saw over 200 people come downtown to participate, explore, and enjoy something truly different. Events like this give people the opportunity to experience Chillicothe in a fun and creative way while supporting local businesses. More importantly, they remind us of what really matters: community and loyalty. Those are values we all need to share with each other—especially in today’s climate—and there’s no better symbol of that than the works of Tolkien.”

The upcoming event aims to build on that momentum by expanding participation and enhancing the overall experience for attendees of all ages. Costumes are encouraged but not required, and activities will be designed to appeal to families, fantasy fans, and anyone looking for a unique way to spend time in the community.

Organizers emphasize that the event is not only about entertainment, but also about strengthening connections within the community and driving foot traffic to local businesses.
